Some Are Mates of Soul

During my walk I thought I smelled a familiar scent and it stopped me in my tracks because there wasn’t any reason for it to be there to pepper my pike and it made me think about something I heard in a dream.

“my soul would always remember. Be it ten minutes or ten years I know that it would take but a moment for it all to come back…”

Took a moment to look around and try to confirm there was no way I could have smelled it because the street was empty and there was no way anyone had been where I was standing because I would have seen them.

Shrugged my shoulders and chalked it up to life in the Twilight Zone and kept walking because I stopped trying to figure out some things and just accept they are.

Castles & Dreams

The weather was almost perfect, a bit windier than my eyes would like but not bad for walking, not bad at all.

So I wander under blue skies wondering what is coming next because I have my own visions of paradise floating through my head.

It is a particular and peculiar feeling that I am walking along the path of the kingdom with the secret garden of castles and dreams.

Funny because when I had thought I had thrown away the key and burned the map that showed the secret path I found them in my pocket.

“Fuck me, how did they get there.”

Wasn’t really a question and not really a comment.

I just kept walking because if I am meant to know I’ll find out and if I am not, well it won’t matter now will it.

Doesn’t mean I won’t spend any time trying to figure it out because my nature is to poke around and see what happens.

Don’t tell me not to touch something because you are going to motivate me to press that button. Doesn’t mean I will but it certainly means I am going to think about it.

Hell, I have spent countless hours reading and considering all sorts of things because sometimes there is history you can use to put things in a historical context and sometimes there…isn’t.

“I am sick to death of cleverness. Everybody is clever nowadays. You can’t go anywhere without meeting clever people. The thing has become an absolute public nuisance. I wish to goodness we had a few fools left.”
Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest

Had a few people take a poke at me by insulting my intelligence or at least trying to. That rarely bothers me.

I know who and what I am. Know there are many far smarter than I am but also know I am rarely going to be the dumbest person in the room.

But I also have been in situations where I knew all around me were smarter and I appreciated that because it made me focus on being sharper and trying to raise my game.

If you can take that kind of stuff and use it properly it is good motivation and can have a positive impact,

Given a choice I like to be around people who are smarter and better at some things than I am because I appreciate the learning.

What I dislike is being around people who think their intelligence enables them to not require significant experience in things like medicine.

Intelligence is important but the ability to understand concepts doesn’t always allow you to apply them in real world applications.

Sometimes there is no substitute for experience.

Information Is Not Knowledge

This is my third attempt at writing this paragraph.

Third time at trying to explain why curiosity is very important but recognizing that information is not knowledge is critical.

How many times have you been in a meeting or conversation where someone vomited everything they know about a particular topic on the table you are sitting at.

How many times have you wished they tied in something that made what they were saying relevant, significant and important?

Probably more than once.

Been thinking about this quite a bit because in the age of Covid-19 more than a few people try to tell you all they know but very few can do so in a way that resonates.

Quite a bit is because of the inability to present it in a way that demonstrates significance and some because of the tribalism.

Easier to stay in our echo chambers but more detrimental to all.

Ah, but I wish it was different and that we could rely upon more being mates of soul, but that is not how things work on the larger scale today.

Partisan is more popular and we are the lesser because of it.
