You Need A Friendly Lover

Some of you will come here looking for the story behind the headline but you ought get used to disappointment because I am not sharing that one today.

Don’t read anything into that or try to figure out if there is a hidden meaning because it is as plain as it looks.

Something made me think of it and that something sent me running down a different path and I dug into some old boxes looking for some things that used to be.

Didn’t find them but didn’t get real deep into looking because I am enjoying the beginning of a vacation and didn’t feel like working on cleaning up the clutter I know lies within some of those.

Doesn’t mean I won’t because this particular staycation will undoubtedly provide some extra time and I’ll use some of it to catch up on a few tasks I haven’t gotten to yet.

But they weren’t what I wanted for this Sunday night so I put it aside, did some reading and watched the latest episode of that Lakers show on HBOMax.

Snorted when the Lakers said Fuck Boston because I remember the Magic and Bird rivalry like it was yesterday.

Hell I have written more than once about hiking through Hezekiah’s Tunnel outside of Jerusalem in ’85 right after we beat Boston for the Championship.

That was a magical experience part of a magical summer, 16 years-old and I still speak with many of the people who went on that trip with me. Friends for life.

Look At My Eyes Or You’ll Miss It

Thought about playing Hot Hands with some of the guys and the 100 other ways we tested each other, young bulls trying to figure out how to grow into men.

I have heard some people describe some of what we did as examples of toxic masculinity and shook my head at the blanket description without context or nuance.

Didn’t engage in the conversation because it was another example of people talking without interest in being challenged.

Wasn’t because I disagreed with everything because some of what they said made sense but a chunk of it reminded me of listening to a non-Jewish man try to tell me what was and wasn’t antisemitic.

That is not something he gets to do any more than I get to tell women what childbirth really feels like. There is a difference between reading and experiencing something.

We all know certain things but some experiences require something more than an understanding of mechanics for a full understanding.

The final decision of where my daughter is going to go to school is almost upon us. Got a couple of things to do before that moment comes and then we make the best decision we can based upon limited information.

It is making her a little crazy, this in between place and I understand it better than she knows because I have been there.

Have tried to avoid saying that to her because it isn’t helpful.

I am confident everything is going to work out and that whatever choice she makes will be just fine. That is not just Dad’s rhetoric, it is the reality she’ll create for herself.

That’s the benefit of my own life experience. I don’t know all of the details but I have the foundation and framework that provides an educated basis for it.

The comparison and contrast between two universities is a bit harder because of how things are structured but from my perspective it is similar to asking whether you should buy a Toyota Camry or a Honda Accord.

And that is all I will say about it for now because the details aren’t mine to share but the overall story is here for posterity.
