The Cougar Meets A Trouser Snake

Got a snort or 12 of Tequila in me but don’t need that to come up with a headline or story to go with it because I can weave a tale stone cold sober if I want to.

It is a gift and I am grateful for it and maybe blessed just a little bit or perhaps a lot.

The old writing professors said we shouldn’t use a lot as an adjective because there were more powerful words.

They are correct, there are.

Doesn’t mean they are appropriate in all circumstances or situations and given someone threw down the gauntlet and asked if I could combine the two I figured I ought to oblige them.

Made like Doc Holiday and said “I’m your Huckleberry.”

‘Cuz we’re not discussing a piece of work the critics will evaluate or feel the need to eviscerate to prove their worth and I don’t need to prove my mettle.

I only need to spend a few crafting this Frankenstein piece of prose, if you can call it that.

Home Of A Wonderful Life

They are talking about a A Wonderful Life in a Facebook group I am part of and where it was filmed and a group of us are excited because it shows our home.

Not our actual homes, but the place we grew up, in a time just before our neighborhood was carved out to expand LA and give GIs and their families more choices of where to settle.

So we stare at the pictures and talk about whether some scenes look like the park we watched fireworks in every 4th of July and where we played soccer or baseball.

The park we used as our hangout and hideout.

It has been in a million television shows and movies, there are pictures of the guys from Led Zeppelin playing soccer, er football in between concerts at the Forum and other highlights but that is not where the excitement comes from.

It is the memories of our time there and for some of us, the memories of watching our kids play soccer, learn how to ride their bikes and so much more.

Because a bunch of us left and even those who didn’t can’t help but occasionally look for an opportunity to dip our spoons into the honey jar of memory.

Sometimes you need to look back to remember how you got to be who you are and to remember who you wanted to become.

If you are really lucky you can see that you followed a straight line from there to here but for most it is a bit more of a squiggly looking thing.

A crisscross and mishmash of life experience that placed you where you stand today and ideally able to say you are happy and secure with it.

And if not, the ability to find the strength to keep moving forward with perfect focus upon the end goal.

You know, just like a cougar focused upon capturing the dangerous Trouser Snake.

Don’t know if that is worthy of a mic drop but consider it done.
