Comments and Community

Sometimes the blog feels a bit like an iceberg that is floating around a cold sea filled with thousands of other icebergs. I am not a huge fan of doing the same thing everyone else does nor am I am a fan of trying to be different for the sake of being different either.

Maybe that is why I don’t have a million tattoos and piercings or maybe it is because I don’t want it to take 198 minutes to get through airport security, plain vanilla Josh has enough fun with TSA as it is.

Really, I can’t wait to be groped again by some guy who has claws for hands and gargles with garlic. Maybe one day we’ll figure out a better system, but for now I’ll deal with security because I’d rather fly than take the bush.

Comments and Community

Your comment section is among the best ways to develop a community and that is a big part of why I switched from CommentLuv to Livefyre. I think it will make a significant impact, or at least I hope it will.

The good news about blogging is that if it doesn’t work I can always point and click my way back to CommentLuv or Disqus. But in the interim we are going to root for success with the current system and watch how it goes.

We are also going to treat you to a video of me sharing a few thoughts with you about it too. Aren’t you lucky. 😉

Seriously, the goal of the video is to help build the relationship with all of the current readers, those who know me and those who don’t. And it is designed to help mix things up a bit here too.

Variety is the spice of life.

Hi, I am Josh Wilner and I am happy that you have decided to visit my corner of cyberspace. I am a writer/marketer/friend and family man. My professional background includes more than twenty years in working with businesses to help them do a better job of connecting with their existing and prospective customers. More specifically I have worked with companies of all sizes from the Fortune 500 to the new start up to help them build, develop and grow their social media and marketing plans. I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy music, reading, writing, playing sports and laughing.

I am a father who writes about life, parenting, business, politics and fiction. I don’t use an editorial calendar because I don’t map out what I am going to write that far in advance. The primary focus will be on things that relate to children and parenting. But the nifty thing about that is that encompasses a wide range of things. Sometimes I work with companies on their PR/Marketing efforts. If they provide products or services I will disclose it. Here is an incomplete list of companies that I am currently or have recently worked with: Nintendo, Philips Norelco, Subway, Frigidaire and Mattel. Want to know more about me, keep reading. If I wanted to provide a professional description it would looks similar to this: Jack has a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from California State University Northridge. He has been writing for print and web publications for more than twenty years, covering a wide range of topics including: business, technology, parenting, politics, education, sports and religion. That is far too serious so I prefer to use something like: The Jack B. is a writer and author of 39 unpublished books and three screenplays. A former athlete and would be superhero he still fights for truth, justice and the American Way. Though he may look like a grown man, don’t fool yourself he is still a boy at heart. When he is not engaged in Walter Mitty like fantasies he is a husband, father and friend and blogs at TheJackB. Hmm…obviously I have since moved from Random Thoughts over to this place, but that is ok. This page is a work in progress which is a good description for me. I’ll probably tweak this on a regular basis so feel free to keep checking back in because you never know what might show up. I am a prolific writer and update frequently so don’t forget to scroll down the page to see what nugget of wisdom you just might have missed. Here is a short selection of posts to get you started. 1. Hi Josh
Okay I don’t know much about the benefit of livefyre, but at least comment luv adds people’s posts.  Which is a plus I think if people are going to visit others.  It also just seems to get you connected to them or maybe also facebook, twitter, etc. and not to someone’s website. So is that just a one-way link for anybody commenting?  So may be I can add my last post?

      Mary Stephenson Hi Mary,
I like most things about CommentLuv but there are a couple of hiccups that sometimes make me crazy. Lately I have been getting hammered again with CommentLuv spam. These are people who try to leave ‘normal” comments so they can get free advertising/links to sites I don’t want to be associated with.

  2. Where’s the Texas accent? Giddyup pardner….
Livefyre, Livewire, I don’t think I know the major difference between Lifefyre, Disqus or WordPress (or whatever it is the heck I’m using). For people with a purpose I’m sure there are important distinctions, but if I take the time to visit a site and want to comment I will find a way regardless of what they have going on.
Hope all is well and you are still progressing forward on your journey.

bdorman264 Hey Bill, I have the accent, I just hide it, would hate for people to think I am some kind of redneck now. 😉
Sometimes I like to mix things up here just to see if one works better than another. It is like sales, sometimes you change your technique a bit because you find something that brings in more dollars than another.
