“One of the biggest problems with the world today is that we have large groups of people who will accept whatever they hear on the grapevine, just because it suits their worldview—not because it is actually true or because they have evidence to support it. The really striking thing is that it would not take much effort to establish validity in most of these cases… but people prefer reassurance to research.”
― Neil deGrasse Tyson
I used the quote above in one of the Substack posts I wrote. It fits the time and space ever so well, though I suspect it is applicable during many others.
Shook my head at the people who blamed Haley Stevens for taking what appeared to be a principled stand.
Many of those people celebrated Liz Cheney for doing so but failed to see the hypocrisy in opposing Stevens. Maybe they lack self awareness and it doesn’t occur to them that support for being principled means you get people who do things you don’t agree with.
But isn’t that what you want out of leadership, the person who stands up and says they don’t want to support someone or something because it impacts their values.
Update Your Profile Pic
Someone said I ought to update my LinkedIn profile pic. I sent them this snapshot and asked if it was better. The current one is from my first time living in Texas, so the picture is about 13 years old.
Funny to think about what was going on 13 years ago. Probably makes the ghost feel warm, fuzzy and confused.
Lots of magic back then, proof of so many things but people make choices. Sometimes they go for the lizard lipped, skeletal guy with a weak voice.
But the beauty of life is you don’t know what will happen as you walk on down that Yellow Brick road.
In the prior post I linked to a post in which I placed an old video of me. Think I was around 34 or so, funny to see that baby face.
That kid had no idea that in November of ’26 he’d be looking at test results confirming he wasn’t anemic.
Not a surprise to me, because I can feel the difference. But five bags of Iron infusions earlier this year certainly helped move it along.
Hell, this time last year I was only a few weeks out of the hospital and had just resumed hitting the gym.
Been quite the year in so many ways, I hope not to repeat most of them. But if that saying about what doesn’t kill you make you stronger than I am pretty fucking strong.
So much more that could be said, but my five minutes is up. Maybe I’ll post more, or maybe I’ll hit the substack.
