Packing is a task for me but I can’t tell you why, just that I go through cycles where it takes me forever to get it done and cycles where it is less than 10 minutes.
It is rare that I am truly uncertain as to what I need so delays generally aren’t because I can’t make decisions.
I am not particularly good at folding or rolling my clothes though I ought to be. Don’t have to be an expert, just ought to be more adept but I for whatever reason I feel little incentive to practice and or work on improvement.
Sometimes I think about getting one of those boards people use to fold shirts. That usually happens during the packing process and almost never includes my looking up the item on Amazon or elsewhere.
So I never take steps to improve the folding situation when I could most certainly do so. Sometimes that makes me laugh because a guy who isn’t afraid to take action to improve circumstances and situations has a block with this one.
That Was Silly
I recently sprang for dinner for the younger Mr. Wilner because we wanted to celebrate an accomplishment.
We agreed that due to time and other factors we would bring something in from the local neighborhood. I told him to pick a place and we found one that allowed online ordering.
He told me what he wanted and I entered it on the website. What he didn’t see was the form provided a space for the name of the person who ordered specific entrees.
I entered my name as “Super Dad” and the mister got “Yummy Boy,” which I knew he would find to be ridiculous.
What we didn’t know was the guy who handed us our orders decided it would be entertaining to make a S like logo on the plastic cover of my order.
Nor did I expect him to be positively gleeful as he handed us our meals, “I got your names” spilled out of his mouth accompanied by a giant smile.
My son thought it was kind of funny to see the guy get so excited to hand us our order but didn’t think anything of it until we returned home and he saw what was on the box.
We got a laugh of out it and for a brief moment I remembered him when he was quite little laughing at something and saying “that was silly.”
Seventeen Years Later
I came across a comment from a blogger who shut things down seventeen years ago and wondered if he really stopped writing.
He had talked about starting a private blog and perhaps he did, but I can’t tell you whether MC went that route or not.
I remember enjoying his work and discussing with some others. I remember so many discussions from those days and questions about whether some things would materialize and when.
Suppose some of those are at the 20 year mark, time moves quickly and if the journey has taught me anything it is that you never do know what can happen.
It is one hell of a ride.
Did I mention I don’t like packing.
