Two Clogged Toilets & A Promotion

I’d like to tell you the story of two clogged toilets and a promotion at the office but there are boundaries in blogging that I choose not to violate.

Sometimes it is because I have no interest in sharing news with people who don’t deserve it and sometimes it is because the story isn’t mine to share.

You never know who is going to decide to haunt these parts again because redneck attorneys come by and assorted others some of whom are on a need to know basis.

And you know what they say, they don’t need to know.

Others who are in the stereotypical circle of trust may eventually hear but one doesn’t always know because there comes a time when you walk into a room and can’t remember why you did it.

So you wander around trying to figure it out and it occurs to you that you might want to find your glasses and that maybe that is why you walked in.

They are not on the chair, the table, the desk or three other places and it turns out that you didn’t need to look because they are resting on your forehead.

So yeah, you may not be updated because some almost middle aged moment hijacks a person’s day.

Bowling Balls & Chainsaws

There are days in which you juggle bowling balls and chain saws without any regard for your personal safety because you know you have got it.

And then there are days where you know you don’t have it and you hope you want drop too many upon your head.

Had a few of both recently and some moments where I looked at a picture, pointed my finger and said “you hurt my heart” and another where I said “maybe you’ll find me in the echoes of the future or the pages of the past.”

Laughed pretty hard at both and smiled knowing that I probably looked like the crazy guy talking to himself on the subway but that is ok.

Someone told me I was being mean and I ought not to talk to them and I said they should stop crying and do better because they were embarrassing themselves and others.

That is connected to conversations I have had with people who claim to be patriots who are interested in looking out for freedom.

The problem with that is you can’t engage in censorship of anything and everything you dislike and claim you are pro freedom.

And if you have to describe yourself as cool or a patriot chances are you are neither.

Irks me a little more than a bit when people decide they don’t want to read a book and no one else should either.

Irks me more than a little bit when those same say they are for parents’ rights but only extend those rights to parents who agree with their provincial perspective.

So have I been mean? Have I been direct, nasty and hard to contend with?

The answer to the first is subjective as is the question of whether I have been nasty.

I’ll assure you that I have been hard to contend with because if you work to get my attention and I choose to give it to you I may not stop as quickly as you would like.

It is kind of funny to me that people think if they poke you two or three times you are not allowed to poke back or do so more than once.

I remember learning that the hard way when I was a kid. If you messed around with the wrong person they might mess back in a way that was uncomfortable.

Been thinking a bit about that because there have been a bunch of Gen X videos floating around in which different Gen Xers have talked about what life was like for us when we were younger.

Some younger people have asked what I thought and I said some of it was an exaggeration but much was true.

We found ourselves unsupervised on a regular basis so if you got into it with someone else there wasn’t a guarantee that it would end quickly. It didn’t necessarily mean that you were fighting, could mean that you were roughhousing.

If several guys decided you were going to get a “pink belly” your stomach might get slapped enough times for you to remember it later.

Anyhoo, there were lots of Lord of the Flies moments and lots of times where we did stuff that we would never want our kids to do because we got lucky nothing really bad happened.

But here I sit thinking about a day that had some really cool stuff happened, totally unexpected but quite welcome alongside a few of those bowling balls.

I am proud of the rewards of hard work but I have to tell you there are bruises upon my body from those balls and tomorrow might be something else.
