The Girl From Ipanema Is Named Savannah

I overheard some young mothers talking about Scary Mommy and wondered if any of my work is still there.

Been probably close to a decade since I last looked and a little more than that since they were posted. It took place in the days when my kids were quite young and that site was run by the woman who started it and not a corporation.

If they aren’t live any more I can probably find what I wrote in my sent file. Might be worth looking to see what I said and to determine if it is worth memorializing somewhere else.

Had lots of different guest blogs all over the place but most are gone as the bloggers who shared their platforms with me have shut their old joints down.

Not sure I have a list of everywhere I once was but if I did or do I am sure I could probably find my old work and decide if I wish to give it life again.

There is no particular rhyme or reason for the headline. I read the woman who sang the song has died and someone I know was just in Georgia for her son’s graduation from art school.

And it occurs to there are women named Savannah and Georgia, not that it matters. Probably better than Kalamazoo and Michigan or maybe not.

Maybe those names would be fine, not judging you for naming your kids any of those names but can’t speak for the kids in school and on the playground.

I Have Questions

I have questions for some people that range in degree of importance. Some have no significance other than my own curiosity and education.

They are things that I can probably learn on my own but it would be interesting to have an expert provide the inside scoop and address nuance that you might not pick up as a layman.

I have other questions that require face-to-face contact with people because I want to look them in the eye and hear their thoughts about some things.

Those are the personal questions that can change life and or lives but to what extent you never know.

Some questions are related to things that I never thought possible and some I thought probable but with varying degrees of likelihood.

It is interesting to me how things change as you age and how your ideas, thoughts and beliefs evolve. Sometimes you decide that which you used to dream about is dumb and that which you had no interest in is important.

Sometimes you get a strange feeling that wouldn’t have made you think twice at 25 but in your fifties makes you wonder if there is a medical issue.

Are you short of breath because you are anxious or because you ran the stairs.

And if you ran the stairs are you certain about why you ran them or did you forget and are now focused on trying to figure out if you are just out of shape or having a heart attack.

More importantly, did you remember to move with your sneeze so that you don’t accidentally pull something. It is bad enough when you wake up and wonder why you feel like you were worked over with a baseball bat.

Some of you know how that goes. You slept in a comfortable bed in a normal position and cannot figure out what could have happened because there is nothing to suggest why your body aches.

You didn’t work out. You didn’t get mugged. You didn’t do anything unusual other than give your body eight hours to in which to come up with a reason to extort payment for the times you weren’t kind to it when you were younger.

Heck, I have one hell of a headache now and I can’t explain why. It just is and chances are that it is not a tumor, aneurysm or stroke.

But you never know because you are at an age where weird stuff slowly starts to happen. Even if it doesn’t happen to you it has happened to someone you know from high school or some random person you read about online.

It is probably nothing and if you were 25 you wouldn’t think twice about it, but the joy of aging gives you wisdom and worry.

Ideally more wisdom or enough to overpower the worry, but you never know if you are that kind of lucky.

Given the pounding inside my melon I am going to use my wisdom to get some early shut eye.

See you on the other side…or not. 😉
