I hadn’t planned on updating the blog tonight but I got an email that surprised me and I decided to bang out a quick post.
Look at the screenshot below and you’ll see someone I don’t know has invited me to share a trip to San Diego with them.
Tried to come up with a good headline and got stuck with a cross between Harlequin romance and Animal House.
I wouldn’t mind going to San Diego. It is a place I am familiar with and somewhere I have spent quite a bit of time.
Got a ton of memories from family trips as a kid and parent and some stories I can’t share online from college. Got more than a handful of friends that live there now who I am overdue to see.
Several have asked when I am going to be back in California so this trip would be timely but I don’t know who this Alyse person is.
Got an idea who they intended this email for as I know of a few people who share my name but I can’t be certain. One lives back East and is a little older than I am and the other is younger, but from San Diego.
At least I think he is, not entirely sure.
We used to exchange email periodically but we haven’t contacted each other in years so I haven’t any current intel on what he is doing with his life.
Can’t say we were ever close nor do I remember exactly how we met.
There is a Wilner out there who is my age but has the same name as one of my sisters. I don’t know her, but we know people in common.
Some used to say she and I should get married so she wouldn’t have to change her name. I never saw that as much of a selling point.
Always figured if you fell in love with me it would be for my wit, charm and exceptional personality not to mention my humility.
The name didn’t figure into it but what the hell do I know anyway.
Some years back my daughter told me she couldn’t understand how any woman found me attractive because I was annoying.
I laughed and told her some found me sexy and that they probably loved me too.
She scrunched up her face and told me not to say things like that and I laughed. No one wants to think of their parents like that but my kids sometimes need a reminder about pressing buttons.
“Who do you think you got that trait from and who has been doing it since before you were born.” 😉

That Coelho quote isn’t perfect for this post but it sort of fit another part of the idea I was working on for this.
Thought about putting together a bit about a RomCom about the odd couple who found each other when they ended up at the AirBNB but that is not really new or novel and I didn’t have the time to do it.
So you get this post to read and if that is not acceptable well you can read the ones before it or you can pay a cancellation fee and read none of them..
I am not going to respond to the invitation. I figure whomever this Alyse person is will find the other Josh and ask why he hasn’t responded.
And that is what you get for this edition of nonsense from JW. It is not my finest work, but I kind of enjoyed writing it.

If we don’t count airports of train stations, the only time I’ve actually been “in” California was at a seminar in San Diego back in 2014. I wish I could say I enjoyed myself a lot, but other than finding a Ghiradelli ice cream shop and having a peanut butter and chocolate sundae, and taking a few pictures of the Navy exhibits, I got sick and I didn’t enjoy myself all that much… though, if I’m being honest it was my fault for not thinking about bringing a warm jacket while walking through the night in slightly chilled weather after leaving Orlando where I’d gone for a wedding, or having to learn that one should put cans of soda in a suitcase… that’s enough of that!

San Diego is a really nice city but when you’re sick it’s like a lot places, not home.
