Sometimes You Have To Take A Risk

Been staring at The Origin Of The Silver Man and trying to piece together an older memory that I can feel lying deep inside the well of dreams.

It is from a conversation with my grandfather that we had standing on the balcony of the West Hollywood apartment he and grandma lived in for most of my life.

I can hear him slipping between English and Yiddish, or “Jewish” as he would sometimes refer to it. It is tied into his grandparents, something about my Great-Great Grandfather Lipa but I can’t quite grab it with my fingers.

Damn thing is almost within reach, but not quite and it is making me a little crazy because I think it might fill in the gaps on a couple of things.

Or maybe not.

Might be wrong, but I am in a place where these gut feelings keep coming out as I expect them to.

Doesn’t happen often, but sometimes it just rolls.

It’s how I knew certain things would happen when I first moved to Texas and how I knew I was moving back.

Don’t get lost in the details or the lack thereof because it doesn’t matter. Trust me or don’t trust me but I do know a few things.

Sometimes you have to take a risk.

Is It True

Overheard a couple of people talking about a line from Yellowstone where someone said “Women know women and men know what women want them to know.”

The man asked if that is true and I rolled my eyes and kept walking. I don’t buy into it.

I think there are some areas in which women know more about other women than men do just as the reverse is true.

And the latter part, hell we all have our secrets and some of us are better at recognizing what is or isn’t real than others.

That is not a gender skill, that is a people skill that you have or don’t have in varying degrees.

Listening…so much of this is about listening to what is being said and not waiting for the first available opportunity to add your own commentary.

I don’t claim to be an expert at it but I am better than some people realize I am. Again, not really the point but throwing it out because some people need to hear it.

The older I get the less interested I am in putting up with people who don’t listen. It is why the list of those I speak with shrinks because if you don’t listen or have any interest in my thoughts I probably have none in yours.

Life is too short.

Write Your Heart

That is one of the goals for 2023 to put more unfiltered thoughts out there and to take some more risks. Time to have some bigger conversations and make some bigger moves.

Already started some of it and so we jump off of the cliff and figure out if I can still fly or if I am going to sink like a rock thrown into a dark pool.

One thing I am certain of, even if I can’t fly I’ll bounce and roll my way down whatever hill I land upon. Won’t be pretty and could be painful, but pain and I are old friends.

If you never reach for something more you will always have whatever you have got. Sometimes you have got enough and there is no reason to reach but if you don’t feel that way you must stretch.

And if you don’t stretch yourself you forfeit your right to complain.
