I’m Looking For Answers

Told the reflection I am looking for answers and he just smiled back at me and said “aren’t we all.”

I did a double take and tried to figure out how he could have been playing Taylor Swift’s new cut Anti-Hero.

Shrugged my shoulders and told him to watch out because you have to be prepared the answers you seek.

“Sometimes they are enlightening in the most profound way. That doesn’t preclude that insight from being painful for a host of reasons nor does it mean that pain isn’t necessary to get to joy.”

He asked me what I meant and I told him there are two distinct moments in which I took a road I didn’t want to take for the benefit of others.

That earned a smile and my own words about not knowing how things would have gone had I traveled down the road not taken.

“No, you can’t know what could have been. Can’t know whether it would have been better, worse or the same. But if you want my honest answer I think chances are it would have been better. Can’t go back. can’t change what I can’t change but it doesn’t mean that describes my future state.”

Dancing In The Fire Becomes A Way Of Life

Got Dylan singing Knockin On Heaven’s Door and this sense that timing doesn’t work the way some people suggest it does.

Call me more agnostic than atheist but still not a believer that things happen in ‘G-ds time’ but definitely someone who recognizes that opportunity doesn’t always knock when you are best prepared to receive it.

So sometimes you have to say screw it and march out to meet it so that you can figure things out. Guess that is part of why I don’t see Johnny’s cover of Hurt as being a sad song.

You can take it that way and let the harsher negative aspects drive your perspective or your can go a different path and maybe that is what the reflection is pushing.

Or maybe it is the guy talking to the reflection.

If you did the work to earn the right to take a shot at the unexpected opportunity than it is up to you to take the swing and determine where it might lead.

Maybe you need to find your own brand of priest and share the contents of your heart and soul not so they can give you absolution but so that you can give it to yourself.

That is the real trick, not getting it from others but getting it from yourself.
