When Life Gives You A Push

Told the younger Mr. Wilner to remember that when life gives you a push you let it knock you down or you can use that momentum and make something of it.

He took that advice and has been running with it and I couldn’t be prouder especially because I don’t think he sees how well he is doing.

Takes a bit of will, dedication and determination to do that.

We bounced some of it back and forth today and I shared a couple of thoughts about some of my experiences and how I have tried to do the same.

“Remember, you can pour your heart out to another and not get any sort of response. It is up to you to decide if you see silence as acceptance or if you are being ignored. What you do next is up to you.”

I think he heard what I was saying but I am still certain he understood it differently than I do and I am good with it because there is a chunk of years between us.

He doesn’t hear the clock ticking the same way I do though I think he feels the sense of change in the air in a similar fashion.

The obvious difference is that I am at least halfway, if not three quarters of the way through my career or so the theory goes.

The Impact Of Life Experience

The impact of life experience upon us and how we respond and react to situations jumped out at me a bit too.  I know more than a few people who died young through all sorts of different things ranging from terminal illness, car accidents to suicide.

Can’t say that I have any hard data to support this, but based upon conversation with many I know more stories than quite a few people.

From my Uncle, to David, Brian G. and a bunch of the relatives I have recently learned more about there is a long list of people who didn’t make it beyond fifty-fix, if that.

It is a big part of what drives me to do certain things and go after some experiences with more vigor than I might otherwise have.

I don’t believe that I am going to die any time soon or at an age people will call young. Hell, when the doc told me not to take another one of those pills I wanted to do it just to show it wouldn’t kill me.

It didn’t happen.

Didn’t come close to doing it and won’t.

Why?

I have responsibilities and I was concerned about what would happen if it made my eyes swell shut for a few days. That wouldn’t have been inconvenient, it would have been damn irritating and I am grumpy enough without adding that crap.

So I made the smart and mature move — got way too much to see and do. No point in handicapping those efforts,

Some of you might actually want me to write something that you can read and respond to again…Might even be something dirty like “A boy fell in the mud.”

Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover

Some people see a hallway of an old building that looks to be in a terrible state of disrepair but not me.

I see opportunity, possibility and adventure.

With a little time, some work and vision there is so much here. Would have to walk the full property to get a better sense, but I see history, wisdom and the foundation for something more than appearances suggest.

Big stuff coming, just you watch.
