On Your Back…Again

A dozen texts fly back and forth between the two players but the one he felt most like sending, “I’ll see you on your back again” was held back.

Not for fear of repercussions, ramifications or any sort of consequence but because it seemed like a card best played later.

He quieted the roar inside his head and heard a series of songs playing but one jumped out at him more than the others, at least for now.

Didn’t have to turn it on in actuality because he could hear it without the intrusion of streaming, cassettes, record or CD.

He had always meant to discuss a portion of it, if not all but hadn’t done so…yet.

“I will, I will, ” she sighed to my request
Then she tossed her mane while my resolve was put to the test
Then drowned in desire, our souls on fire
I led the way to the funeral pyre
And without a thought of the consequence
I gave in to my decadence
One slip and down the hole we fall
It seems to take no time at all
A momentary lapse of reason
That binds a life for a life
A small regret, you won’t forget
There’ll be no sleep in here tonight

Still he heard her voice asking what happens when you get what you want.

He could answer the question in a variety of ways, all of which would be honest and truthful but only a few would count.

They would require details, planning and substance. But he could always go to the default, “you only think you are the boss.”

Truth was it would never work unless it was shared, two dominant personalities would require that much.

But he always knew it could work and not just because of logic and reason but because he just knew.

Make It Your Own

Got Johnny Cash singing Knocking On Heaven’s Door while I jot down notes for a post to be placed in the secret garden.

Johnny did a fine job of making songs others wrote his own. Didn’t take anything away from the original artists, he just took the clay and worked it in his own way.

I have done that a time or two or three…

Took the car in for an oil change and asked them to check out the infotainment system because it wasn’t working quite right.

When they got it up on the rack they discovered the tired I had patched and plugged had failed.

So the car that I have owned since end of April of this year has succumbed to the dread disease of Texas highways contain too much crap.

The day cost me a C note and way too much time but in the midst of it I still smiled because there was a time not so long ago when this would have been quite painful.

This wasn’t a pleasure or pleasant given the time I had to put into it but the joy I felt knowing this was proof things had changed was profound.

Die Facebook…Die

Someone tried to take out Facebook today. They tried to choke, beat and hammer the life out of that divisive beast.

They tired of it lying about looking out for people and not profits and went vigilante on it but not as well as Charles Bronson.

He would have finished the job.

Got a love/hate relationship with it. Been good at helping me keep in touch with friends and family around the world.

Been good at providing support during times when things were pretty rough.

But it killed friendships and severely damaged others.

Maybe those would have shriveled up and died on their own. Maybe they would have come to a natural end and those we stopped speaking too would hold a different place in our minds.

Instead of being viewed as ignorant, corrupt and crazy they would be someone that we once knew who we just don’t have much in common with anymore.

But we’ll never know now and maybe that is neither good nor bad. Maybe it just is like so many other things in life.

Sometimes you got to take the ideas of others and build upon them. Take them and make something old into something new that is your own.
