What Dr. Google Said

Dr. Google told me that I am definitely dying but refused to give me a time frame for this event.

Good old Doc Google listed out symptoms, reasons and possibilities for why I ought to not be concerned and why I ought to start working on the bucket list.

Got on the table for the test and looked for the plug because I played around with pulling it out or faking a seizure/heart attack just to see how fast the staff at the joint could move.

Opted not to make them crazy because I didn’t feel like letting people handle me cuz that might be problematic.

Someone told me a while back I am shorter than they remember but I am never as short as some people think and I generally am significantly heavier than many expect.  Don’t let people half drop you after surgery, you remember and it is not pleasant, but I digress.

Not Much Of A Surprise

The night before I started my first job Dad told me not to engage in the office gossip and that I was better off not trying to make friends at work.

“You have plenty outside, work is work.”

I took that to heart and for years was cordial at the office but never made any effort to build relationships outside of the 8-5.

Was happy to grab lunch with people but you weren’t going to hear me ask if you wanted to grab a beer sometime.

Probably took fifteen years or so before I seriously considered breaking that rule. I said something to my old man about it and he laughed and told me I had taken him too seriously.

Never felt like I missed out on anything and to an extent I have unconsciously followed it with few exceptions.

I had to friend a former boss from a position a while back because the job required it. Didn’t think much of it and after I had moved on I let the friendship stay.

There seemed no harm in it and they had given me a good reference so I saw no reason to burn that bridge if I didn’t have to.

Discovered tonight they either deactivated their FB account or unfriended and blocked me. Funny thing is I couldn’t tell you if this happened a year ago or today.

Not much of a surprise and probably no meaning to it. Heck, if I hadn’t seen a LinkedIn notification about something related to what I used to do I might not have noticed.

That notice made me think of them and so I checked FB to see if they had said anything and boom.

Oh well, that should be the worst thing that happens. Been eight years since I worked there anyway. Back in the days when others worked for Mutton head…

****

Been thinking about truth in advertising since this afternoon.

Got an email from the superintendent of my daughter’s school district regarding some correspondence we have been engaged in and shook my head.

It was framed as if it was a personal note but it clearly was a form letter that wasn’t crafted well.

Flipped onto FB after I got it and took a look at some groups I am involved in and the mom patrol had already begun parsing it. Wasn’t surprised, but am still disappointed.

I am playing around with setting up a table at the next board meeting so that I can offer free unsolicited mail-in ballots because people here go nuts about that.

They’ll tell you that free unsolicited mail-in ballots are more dangerous than Covid because people might vote.

I figure if I organize this properly I can get the knuckleheads to swarm my table so that I can send in people to talk to the board about following the science and not the fiction without interruption.

Might even give out brochures from the Conservatives for Anus Health club where we work on correcting the cranial rectum problems of America.

Final Thoughts

Sometimes we put things down upon the page to provide clarity for ourselves as much as anyone else.

Words explain and express some of our innermost thoughts and if you read them you are forced to ask if you are being honest or are engaged in spin.

Sometimes that is precisely why you write in other places so that you can peel back the skin and write what you fear to say aloud.

Done it more than once.

****

Rumor has it the Taliban has told us there will be consequences if we aren’t out of Afghanistan by the end of August.

If Joe called and asked me what I thought I would tell him I would give them a very special response to their request to remind them we are not being chased out and have chosen to leave.

Don’t want to get sucked back in but want to make it clear that poking the bear will earn immediate consequences.

Not a perfect solution, but you need some deterrence.

JW out.
