The Unread Letters

Went to war in multiple places online (not literally of course) regarding the latest installment of Ilhan Omar’s “I am not trying to be antisemitic when I intentionally lie and or distort the truth about Israel.

Not sure how many people will read what I wrote or take the time to determine the veracity and validity of what has been said.

Omar is doubling down on her falsehoods and claiming that she is being attacked for being Muslim, Black and a woman and crying crocodile tears about her safety while ignoring that her lies are motivating people to attack Jews.

I don’t want her to be threatened with violence but I want her to understand she and those who support these vile statements are complicit in encouraging violence…against Jews.

She isn’t a good person or a good congressman and it has nothing to do with her gender, religion or ethnicity. It is her track record of willful distortions of reality and refusal to take responsibility to do better when you know better.

Those who support the lies are no different to me than those who claim there was no insurrection.

The Unread Letters

I have written letter to various government representatives asking for a variety of changes, not just this year but throughout my life.

Some were simple things like announcing the 75th wedding anniversary of my grandparents, others were requests for more funding for various programs I thought worthy of support.

Others were comments about policies and positions. If you are a representative I can’t expect you to read my mind and know what I want nor do I expect to be the sole voice.

But I do expect to be granted time to share my thoughts on what you ought to do as my rep.

Those letters get an automated response with a note saying they have been read.

I have also written personal letters about thoughts, wishes and dreams to various people. Some of those have received responses, written and or verbal, but not all.

The funny thing is I suspect that even if there has been no response to the most recent they were probably read twice and most likely by the person I intended to read them.

I take silence as agreement and consent, but even if I didn’t I am certain there is more likelihood of influence there than in the letters written to senators and congressmen where an actual response was received.

Though it is possible I am wrong and they fall into the category of the unread letters.

Maybe I’ll write some more. Maybe I’ll try a different format like a bottle pushed by the ocean blue or a post card presented as a secret.

Or maybe I’ll stop this silly post and get on the treadmill as I need to dispose of more caloric intake.
