The Postman Won’t Deliver Your Letter

If you asked me where it was I would say the postman won’t deliver your letter and that you could check other places you know it might exist.

Heck, I might even suggest checking Post Secret but that could present other challenges in knowing when you ought to look.

In a perfect world it would be an organic sort of discovery in which you didn’t know it was coming and was surprised by what you found.

Might take some doing to produce the proper piece in a way that said what needed to be said in a way in which only one person recognized who it was meant for.

Living Ghosts

My Facebook newsfeed is starting to fill with pictures from friends and family in Israel but these aren’t the ones I enjoy seeing.

Not the photos of younger cousins who are newer parents and their babies or pictures of parties and places I  know well.

No, there are videos of rockets and pictures of what they have hit. There are posts of parents who are my age preparing themselves for what happens if their kids get called up and photos of preparations for the what-if scenarios.

There are comments about how the pandemic has changed how schools deal with rocket attacks. Instead of shutting down for a day or two they can Zoom.

Sometimes I watch the videos and sirens take me back decades and a part of me remembers being very little and how that noise scared me.

Sometimes I hear them and they remind me a bit of the severe weather sirens that go off here to warn of us tornados, serious wind and or larger hail storms.

I keep half an eye/ear on the news with those because you can’t reason or negotiate with Mother Nature. If she decides to blow you there is not much you can do but roll with it.

But they are sent with malice and the rockets are. Those are sent terrorize, torment, maim and murder my friends and family.

It is personal.

Takes some strength to manage it all and not let it turn you into living ghosts.

Almost A Senior

My baby is two weeks away from finishing her junior year.

She is almost a senior and it blows my mind. This girl who has big plans for the future and is preparing for take off. She made another birthday card for me and it made me shake my head in all the right ways.

I pulled out one she wrote a dozen years ago and teased her about having repeated herself. She smiled and I pointed out a different line and she said “see, I have been a writer since day one.”

She is correct.

She is a writer and if she wanted it, she could do it. It is not her focus and I haven’t said much about it because I want her to find her way here.

I want her to take some time to explore and think about possibilities. It will serve her well to go deep and see what she finds. She knows I think she is a fine writer and at some point I will make a point to reiterate it.

But not now, she gets to flap her wings a bit and explore. Besides her writing will be noticed by others and that will be good.
