Blog Posts For Those Without Internet

The Internet is still wonky here with connections and speeds that remind me of the days of dial-up. Some people still don’t have it, some people don’t have power or just got it back.

I am writing quickly because I feel the need to vent and update this joint and given the lack of confidence in my home connection pushing to get it posted.

Might be some mistakes due to my working at speed though there might not be because I am pretty damn good at this.

I don’t pat myself on the back about my writing often but some reminders are given for personal needs and reasons.

Posted a few things on Facebook during the Winter of our discontent because I figured it would be good to memorialize some of what was going on while our idiot junior senator made a run for Mexico.

There is no prize or reward in proving what you know to be true other than personal satisfaction.

I wrote quite a few words spelling a few things out and detailed there silence was consent and there is no purpose in reading unless there is agreement.

That is a reference to several blog posts I wrote elsewhere and a reference to relying upon gut feelings about things you think you know even though you haven’t received confirmation.

Because sometimes life requires you go off of your gut and not let paralysis of analysis prevent action.

Reminds me of the guy who said I am not being loved the way I want to be loved and I deserve better or something like that. Think it was in a movie with Neville and Hamilton guy or something like that.

Be Silent Until You Need Not Be

Took someone aside after a meeting and told them if they wanted to be taken more serious they ought to be silent until they need not be.

“Comment on everything and people will tune you out unless you keep pushing gold nuggets of wisdom.”

“You talk during a lot of these. I have heard you speak.”

“I bet I have. I’ll put money down if you took a poll I wouldn’t be the one of the first three names people throw out regarding those who speak every time. I am ok with that. I’ll put my results up against others and list what I am asked to do and what I am not.

You want people to take you seriously? Give them a reason to and take away the reasons not to.”

****

Put up a quick post elsewhere spelling more things out and sharing more ideas. Took a look at another site and mulled over whether to throw time into fixing some of the coding issues.

Threw on Foo Fighters Times Like These and thought about the combination of lyrics and music and why I like it.

Glen Campbell did a cover of the song that I kind of enjoy. Stumbled across an almost 50 year old video of Carole King doing A Natural Woman and remembered a moment from a bunch of years ago.

Thought about how long the fire inside can burn and wondered if such things ever burn out. Moved on to Can’t Find My Way Home and smiled because I know I have part of the puzzle figured out.

I tell you friends if you don’t pay attention to who you look for and turn to when times are rough you are fooling yourself.

It was a rough few days and maybe that is part of why I am fired up.

What happened here in Texas was predictable and preventable.

Not saying that we could have changed the weather or stopped it from coming but I am saying we absolutely could have prepared for it.

We could have winterized the infrastructure and taken steps to minimize the impact upon Texans. People died and people continue to suffer because of policy failures in the governor’s office and general legislature.

People I know were put at risk and some are going to be dealing with significant and severe consequences of the failure to take steps to protect us.

I was prepared to go far beyond what I did to take care of things if I had to do so but am glad I didn’t.

Been through multiple major earthquakes, evacuated from a forest fire, the LA Riots, pandemic, insurrection and general political unrest–this wasn’t my first run with stressful situations and it won’t be the last.

Told the kids again to remember to take a deep breath and deal rationally with what comes. Think through situations.

If things don’t turn on go through the regular steps of trying to figure out why. Be smart, be safe, be methodical and good things happen.

Might not feel that way at the time, but if you get through with less wear and tear there are things to be said. There is a victory in it.

And now this particular post is done and it is time to rest here, until meet again.
