What Kind Of Love Story Is That

This post is filled with spoilers about Wonder Woman 1984 so if you don’t want to know anything don’t read anything after the video below.

Spoiler Time

A good story has three parts, a beginning, middle and end but I didn’t find those in this movie. It was disjointed, jumbled and goofy.

I am good at suspending disbelief and giving writers some rope to play with and have an imagination that is good at filling in the blanks but this movie made it hard to do so.

Won’t say I am sorry I watched because I wanted to see it but am glad I didn’t pay for movie tickets. Since I have HBO Max and it was included in the cost of the service I was good with it.

Hell, I have found HBO Max to be pretty solid. I enjoyed The Undoing and have caught up on a few movies I hadn’t yet seen so I am happy with the service.

But damn, this had so much potential and it just threw it away. I am even a sucker for movies about finding the lost love but they blew that up too.

They should have called me, I would have helped.

Could have written a post called I wrote you another damn letter and mailed it to Jenkins or maybe written it in Hebrew to Gal Gadot.

Sincerely,

Josh

Yeah, I have written better letters than that one but I am a Vodka into my evening and trying in two different languages is hard, even with the help of translation.

Which reminds me of how unfair we sometimes are to people who speak English as a second language. I know I sound a little foolish and ignorant when I switch languages and that I am far from stupid.

Not claiming to be a genius, but I am educated, well read and informed on a wide variety of topics and can communicate those things effectively in English.

But ask me to do so in Hebrew or Spanish and I know I lack the punch, panache and clarity I can bring in English.

Which is something I am sure many people who speak English as a second language can appreciate, it is frustrating.

Hell, I HATE when I have trouble communicating thoughts and ideas in English. Ok, hate is a strong word but frustration runs deep when I can’t articulate my thoughts in the clear manner I wish to.

Sometimes it is because my brain works faster than my mouth and sometimes because I haven’t thought through what I am trying to say.

103,000 Written Words

Been writing and trying to take advantage of my time off and had to make a mental note that I don’t have to fit it all in two days because I have more two days off.

So grateful because I hit the wall and needed a break so if things go half as well as I hope and I don’t get any mission critical emails/voicemails I’ll be more than grateful.

Turn on Rod Stewart, remember being a little younger and move on to Save Ferris, Christmas Wrapping song which has these classic lyrics:

What’s a tired Jew to do?
So TV off, tried to escape
Called my friend from Silver Lake
Said to meet on Fairfax
For some coffee and a kugel

Talked about our fear and dread
Of tinsel, lights and parties
Suddenly, like a bad dream
Fairfax was transformed
Into a holiday paradise
Everywhere was Hanukkah
Shiny, sparkly, blue and white

and

Hanukkah day on overload
I just cannot stop eating
I’ve had so many latke
That my tukhus is gonna explode

Kind of funny thinking back on how many times we thought LA was dead on Christmas day but Texas takes it to a new level.

Given the pandemic it didn’t matter because there wasn’t any particular reason to go out other than to see movies and that wasn’t going to happen this year, at least not in a theater.

And so we come back to the movie watching of the day and the primary complaint that WW1984 bombed.

Fortunately there are other flicks to catch up on and given the confluence of pandemic and vacation I’ll probably watch a few more.

And that is all you get here for now.
