The guy put on three different versions of Ring of Fire and made a crack about the video you didn’t see and the silly line about knowing things because of statcounters and what have you.
Threw out more updates because he thought they would be read the next day and laughed at himself when they weren’t.
Silly man.
Bits And Pieces
Sat in on the 9837,983,387th Webex since the pandemic broke and listened to a bunch of people talk about how hard it is to have kids in diapers and or preschool.
Eventually they asked me if I had any kids and discovered I am 15-20 years older than almost every one of them.
One called me grandpa and I promised grandpa can outwork, outwit and outlast him in every way.
When he told me he didn’t believe I laughed and said one of the rules of the game is to be able to work without any sort of electronic device.
He said it is impossible and I asked him if he wanted to concede.
I didn’t expect it to go that way, it was a silly shot based upon age but damn if he didn’t just roll over.
Truth is my job would be more challenging without computer/cellphone but not impossible but some of that is because I don’t have to think very hard about how to do it.
Give me pen, paper and a phone and I can make it work.
Made me remind my kids they need to be able to solve math problems without calculators and read maps in case the GPS doesn’t work.
I didn’t tell them I don’t expect those situations to be infrequent and the exception because they need to know how to function without tech but I am not a fool.
It should be the exception and given that we walk around with the ability to pull up the answers to virtually any question and the formula for any math equation you can think of there is something to be said about not having to rely upon memory for everything.
But then again their father has multiple flashlights, batteries and first aid kids because sometimes things happen and it is good to be prepared.
Epilogue
Looked out at the night sky at the Great Conjunction with a pair of binoculars and thought back to being 17 and looking at Halley’s Comet in 1986.
None of us will live long enough to see the conjunction again, but I might be around in 2062 when it comes back.
I’ll only be 93 so it is not out of the question but there are no guarantees. Still I wonder who will see it with me and what will the next 42 years of life bring.
Made a few wishes tonight just for fun that I’ll hold onto and maybe upon the return of the comet I’ll share whether they came true or not.
Maybe.
