That Cougar In The Tenement Window

Saw that cougar in the tenement window and said I am still listening to Bruce and have to share some lyrics again.

I thought I knew just who I was
And what I’d do but I was wrong
One minute you’re here
Next minute you’re gone

Time moves so damn quickly and the things we promised we’d do get pushed back, adjusted and changed, some for good and some solely because we think we’ll get another chance but sometimes we don’t.

Baby baby baby
I’m so alone

Sometimes that ache of being alone and apart is magnified in ways that you don’t expect because something happens that reminds you of unfulfilled potential and you realize you could get that chance to find out. You could do something about it if you had the courage.
That North Star

Somewhere in the magic of the midnight hour you can find pieces and parts of that giant puzzle and you just know that you are on the verge.

Still hanging with Bruce, new old song finds its way into the rotation and I smile because I hear the echoes of the past reaching into the present and know those tendrils can extend into the future…maybe.

The Boss reminds me of a couple of simple truths and I whisper them softly and consider their meaning.

Then the lights go out and it’s just the three of us
You me and all that stuff we’re so scared of
Gotta ride down baby into this tunnel of love

Bruce is right that you have got to learn with what you can’t rise above if you want to take the ride and I smile because I can sense that north star out there, don’t have to look for it because even when it is cloudy I can always find it if I want to.

There is that crazy connection that brings it out and makes it shine in darkest night or midday.

****

Somewhere in between the moment they ask me what the quote means and I smile and tell to ask the cougar in the tenement window.

“I could lay it all out if I wanted to. Could share the naked truth and leave all my cards on the table but if you don’t know than you won’t because you can’t.

Lightning strikes more than once. You can’t dance in the fire with eyes closed. No risk, no reward.”
