This Is One Of The Best Sources of Blogging/Social Media Information

One of the best resources we have for learning more about blogging and social media is free and it is probably one you haven’t thought of.

It is the Support section at WordPress.com.

If you have wondered what Tags are and how they are different from categories you can find the answer at Support.

Categories vs. Tags

Categories allowed for a broad grouping of post topics, but when you wanted to describe a post in more specific terms, more categories were required. That led to very long category lists inside the blog and very long lists in Categories Widgets.

So we now have tags, too.

Tags are similar to categories, but they are generally used to describe your post in more detail.

For example:

It is not Kosher to copy and past entire pages/sections so if you really are interested in learning more click the “For Example” link in the blockquotes above.

There is a ton of other good information contained in support. Want more ideas and information about how to use social tools on your blog so that you can drive more traffic?

Do It Yourself/Resources

If you are among the long time readers you know that I am a fan of learning by doing and that I am almost a fan of hiring a professional to do certain kinds of work so I am not necessarily advocating that you choose to spend your time reading through the entire support section.

You don’t always have to know what everything means or how to do it yourself, but you might. You might find yourself in a situation where you need to educate yourself about something like Tags so that you can explain to your boss/client/mother why they should use Tags instead of categories or vice-versa.

You might find yourself in a situation where you feel embarrassed because everyone seems to know the difference between a blavatar and an avatar and instead of having to pretend now you know where you can go for help.

There are lots of resources around and sometimes you don’t recognize them because they are filled with frilly, pretty things on the outside and you don’t know about the power tools on the inside.

It takes a bit of practice but if you open your eyes and are willing to nose around a bit you can find all sorts of good information online.

If I did it, so can you. Would love to talk about it in the comments.
