“I was there. I saw it happen.”
That is what they’ll say. They’ll claim they saw the old man wrassle a bar and an alligator. They’ll tell you they were there when that crazy guy rescued three children from being trampled at the Stockyards and then talk about how he just tipped his hat and went about his business.
Later on you’ll hear the whispers about how he ran onto the field during a Cowboys game, juked right, feinted left and then ran through the tunnel and out the side doors.
Dude had so much speed he ran across the street to the ballpark, jumped the fence and ran the bases. The police didn’t catch up until he started doing karaoke at Booger Reds. Heck, they would have put a pair of shiny silver cuffs on his wrists but he shouted out “drinks are on me”
It was like a scene from one of those ’80s comedies. The cops got stuck in a wave of people and watched as he calmly walked out the front door, but not before he finished his beer and tipped his hat.
Is Any Of That True?
I am not going to confirm or deny whether any of that is true or not. What I’ll tell you is that I am sitting at my desk drinking a a bottle of Shiner Bock and staring at a bunch of boxes thinking about what route I am going to take back to Los Angeles.
What I am certain of is that what you just read is more interesting than getting stuck reading some stuffy old post about how this magic plugin will build your list and make your blog the magic source of supplemental income.
“I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
Would it be rude if I told you that some of the “experts” aren’t making any money blogging but since they managed to sell some snake oil they get to do some speaking gigs where they try to convince you that their way works. Kind of reminds me of panning for gold in an amusement park where the park employees have “salted” the river with chunks of gold.
Confession and Advice
I confess that I wrote that headline because I am curious to see if I can use it to gain enough traction to show up on Google as being legendary. It might seem silly or strange to you but I march to the beat of my own drummer and he has no rhythm.
Remember I am the guy who wrote More Than 1 Million People Have Made This Mistake in part because I wanted to see if that sort of headline worked better than some of the others I have used.
Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about the advice.
If you want to make money blogging you have to be able to do more than say you can help people. You have to establish your authority and expertise in whatever it is you are selling.
And you have to be patient.
It takes time to build a blog and that is ok. Part of building that blog is based upon finding your online voice and part of that is building community.
When you find your voice it helps build the connection. It helps you prove that you are authentic and that you are real. People like that. Don’t be afraid to try things and to be different.
The Reunion Show
Now about that legendary Joshua Wilner tour of Texas. Don’t fret if you didn’t get to see it the first time around because you know there is always another tour. There is always a reunion show or some other reason to come back.
I am not leaving for long, just for a while, but I will be back.
