More Than 1 Million People Have Made This Mistake

I have a confession to make.

Fifteen minutes ago I was on the verge of writing the greatest post ever written. It was the kind of writing that would leave you breathless, amazed and filled with wonder.

And then the guy who lives above me turned on his vacuum and I lost my train of thought.

It might sound ridiculous to you, but if you ask my parents they will confirm that the vacuum is my personal Kryptonite. It doesn’t make me cry like it did when I was a baby, instead it makes me want to defenestrate the person using it.

Now I must also confess that I considered marching up to the 3rd floor so that I could take my neighbor and see if he could fly. Mind you it is 10:45 PM here in Texas and everyone knows that no jury here in Tarrant County would convict me for responding to such an ill mannered lout in this manner.

Heck, they might even applaud me.

If you Don’t Ask You Don’t Get

What the fella on the third floor doesn’t know is that if we were back in L.A. defenestration would be the least of his worries. It would be seen as a friendly gesture by one of the homies from the ghetto part of Encino. I didn’t grow up south of the boulevard with the rich kids, no sir.

My set hung out next to Balboa Park and in the really old days spent time at Boys Market and or Kiddyland. Been a few years since you found us riding those ponies.

And that my friends is the prelude to if you don’t ask, you don’t get. What that refers to is quite simple, in life when you want something you need to make a point to ask for it.

Now we can get metaphysical and talk about how the universe brings us what we want/ask for. My old nemesis/friend Ralph Waldo Emerson spoke of it:

“Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.”

I happen to like that quote quite a bit but I’ll add that things happen because we make them happen and now I am going to ask those of you who aren’t a member of my communities to join them.

Join me on Google+ and become a fan of my Facebook page because more than one million people have made the mistake of not yet doing so.

Why Should You Do This?

I am a different kind of blogger and certainly not for everyone and I am good with that. I haven’t ever focused on the low hanging fruit of blogging. I won’t always write about business and blogging. Won’t always write about social media.

Not bashing those who do, but there are millions of those kinds of blogs and the only way I know how to distinguish myself is to write to the beat of my drummer and he has no rhythm.

So sometimes you’ll find reviews of blog frameworks and discussions about pricing. Sometimes we’ll talk about the art of unfriending and run comments about how to break the rules of blogging.

But you’ll find personal tales in there too, like The Fryer in Fort Worth and how to write a Bar Mitzvah speech.

I won’t promise that every post will be a home run, spectacular or amazing, but I guarantee that more often than not they’ll be good and that if you become part of this community you’ll get something out of it.

Obviously it is your choice and I can guarantee that from time to time you’ll see posts like this appear again but that is because the blog continues to grow and new readers show up.

I am not saying the old ones aren’t important because you are, but in life sometimes you have to ask the same question multiple times and that is how it goes.

But if you choose not to join I do hope you will continue to visit.

I am a father who writes about life, parenting, business, politics and fiction. I don’t use an editorial calendar because I don’t map out what I am going to write that far in advance. The primary focus will be on things that relate to children and parenting. But the nifty thing about that is that encompasses a wide range of things. Sometimes I work with companies on their PR/Marketing efforts. If they provide products or services I will disclose it. Here is an incomplete list of companies that I am currently or have recently worked with: Nintendo, Philips Norelco, Subway, Frigidaire and Mattel. Want to know more about me, keep reading. If I wanted to provide a professional description it would looks similar to this: Jack has a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from California State University Northridge. He has been writing for print and web publications for more than twenty years, covering a wide range of topics including: business, technology, parenting, politics, education, sports and religion. That is far too serious so I prefer to use something like: The Jack B. is a writer and author of 39 unpublished books and three screenplays. A former athlete and would be superhero he still fights for truth, justice and the American Way. Though he may look like a grown man, don’t fool yourself he is still a boy at heart. When he is not engaged in Walter Mitty like fantasies he is a husband, father and friend and blogs at TheJackB. Hmm…obviously I have since moved from Random Thoughts over to this place, but that is ok. This page is a work in progress which is a good description for me. I’ll probably tweak this on a regular basis so feel free to keep checking back in because you never know what might show up. I am a prolific writer and update frequently so don’t forget to scroll down the page to see what nugget of wisdom you just might have missed. Here is a short selection of posts to get you started. Mary Stephenson I wish my mom had waited until I was 11. I still hate that noise. A mop for tile sounds much nicer.

  2. Funny, you cried when they ran the vacuum cleaner!  Okay, by the time my mother got her first vacuum cleaner I had given up crying most days!  I think I might have been 11 when she unboxed her prized possession.  We had tile floor so a daily dry mop kept it pretty clean and so I guess it was considered a luxury.
As for you and your writing, yep, never know quite what you are going to write about.

RobBiesenbach Hi Rob. Got to have some fun with this blogging stuff, take it too seriously and it becomes dreadfully boring.
