The Two Biggest Mistakes You Made With Your Website

The two biggest mistakes you made with your website were your failure to use a responsive design that works with phones, tablets and computers and your failure to engage in basic quality control.

We’re in the process of planning my son’s Bar Mitzvah and as we research vendors and opportunities it has become apparent that quite a few businesses haven’t fixed their sites so that they work with mobile devices and computers. In addition we have come across several that have browser issues.

I don’t know if the businesses are unaware that pages don’t render the same way on Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Internet Explorer. It is possible they know and it is possible some of them know their pages look great on a computer but lousy on mobile devices.

Some of them might not have the cash to fix the issues and/or lack the technical knowledge to do it themselves. I understand and appreciate those things, especially since I have broken the blog multiple times.  Things happen, plugins fail or have issues with other plugins and it is hard to keep up.

But the thing is that the consumers rarely care because there is massive competition out there. If your site doesn’t work with my devices I point and click my way elsewhere because I don’t have time to try to figure out why it doesn’t work.

Check and recheck

It is a reminder to check and recheck your site. I try to go through things here on a regular basis because every time I make a change things happen and sometimes they break even when I don’t. Can’t rely on others to tell you so you have to make a point to go kick your tires occasionally.

I thought the infographic below was interesting and since it relates I decided to include it.
