What you have in the video above is solid gold. Gene Autry only wishes he could sing as well as I can.

Confession, I don’t sing in this video but if I did I would definitely sound better than Gene Autry but only because he is dead.

Yeah, I know it is sort of unfair to make him compete in that fashion but if I have learned anything in the past 44 years it is to leverage the strengths and angles.

Anyway, this is a short blurb about the importance of listening and how that impacts our relationships on a personal and professional level.

Feelings Affect Who We Spend Time & Do Business With

Our feelings about people has a significant impact upon our relationships. I actively work on cutting out those who create chaos in my life and or don’t make me feel good.

I don’t have time for that and unless there is a business reason to be involved with you I walk away.

That is not unusual. Many people take a similar approach which is why in professional settings we need to conscience of our impact upon others.

My professional background includes more than twenty years in working with businesses to help them do a better job of connecting with their existing and prospective customers.   1. Hey Josh

    I’m always interested to know what people have to say but it can be a little awkward sometimes if you don’t know the other person that well.

    You just have to listen and hear what they are saying but if they’re talking about something that really doesn’t interest you then that may be the time to be polite and walk away!

    I certainly don’t like it if people interrupt me even if they don’t agree with what I’m saying :-).

    1. TheJackB – Someone complained that this page doesn’t tell you what to expect to find here in this blog so I aim to rectify this with the next line. I am a father who writes about life, parenting, business, politics and fiction. I don’t use an editorial calendar because I don’t map out what I am going to write that far in advance. The primary focus will be on things that relate to children and parenting. But the nifty thing about that is that encompasses a wide range of things. Sometimes I work with companies on their PR/Marketing efforts. If they provide products or services I will disclose it. Here is an incomplete list of companies that I am currently or have recently worked with: Nintendo, Philips Norelco, Subway, Frigidaire and Mattel. Want to know more about me, keep reading. If I wanted to provide a professional description it would looks similar to this: Jack has a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from California State University Northridge. He has been writing for print and web publications for more than twenty years, covering a wide range of topics including: business, technology, parenting, politics, education, sports and religion. That is far too serious so I prefer to use something like: The Jack B. is a writer and author of 39 unpublished books and three screenplays. A former athlete and would be superhero he still fights for truth, justice and the American Way. Though he may look like a grown man, don’t fool yourself he is still a boy at heart. When he is not engaged in Walter Mitty like fantasies he is a husband, father and friend and blogs at TheJackB. Hmm…obviously I have since moved from Random Thoughts over to this place, but that is ok. This page is a work in progress which is a good description for me. I’ll probably tweak this on a regular basis so feel free to keep checking back in because you never know what might show up.       I can see that. It does feel a bit strange and awkward sometimes. The trick is to find a way to listen and politely excuse ourselves when it is not “working” for us. I am not always good at that, but I suppose it might be one of those things that get better with practice.

    Hey one thing for sure when you write a blog or as in this case also create a video, you have the floor. No one can interrupt. Now I just got to figure out how to get some people to just be quiet when others are talking and that they don’t need to comeback with their own story each and every time.

    You are so right if you are thinking about what you are going to say when someone is done talking, you are really not listening. Therefore it has got to be repeated for them to know what you said. Ugh!

  3. Personally, having only worn a cowboy hat occasionally, I’ve wondered how the heck you function in any space smaller than outside. Seems like you’d bump into a million things.

    On the topic of listening – absolutely agree, I have no time for people who are simply waiting for me to stop talking. I don’t treat anyone else that way, and expect the same. As I get older I’m thinking more and more of how I can be of help to others, and vice versa. That means letting go of people who don’t have the same ethic.

      Until this past April I hadn’t worn a hat in twenty years or so. Can’t remember if I noticed the hat issues then or not, but I definitely do now.

      We have the same attitude about people. If I notice you spend all of your time waiting for me to stop talking so that you can I walk away. It is either give and take or forget it.
