Three Thoughts

The Wiggles don’t play here anymore and they haven’t in so long it almost feels like a dream.

Once they were a treasured favorite, a constant on the stereo and something the kids would sing along with regardless of whether anything was actually playing.

But those days are long gone and the new dawn that followed their sunset has been given its own sunset and retirement a thousand times over.

Now the children whose lives I knew inside and out have portion of their lives of which I know only the most cursory elements. That is not a bad thing, it is natural and demonstrates they have grown.

But it is strange sometimes to see how few family meals there are and to know the days of being able to count on them with regularity is over.

I remember the change from my own youth, but I chased that hard and this one I would put off just a little bit longer if I could.

Can You See What I See?

Surprised when I heard Manilow lyrics float through my head unexpectedly.

“I feel the change comin’
I feel the wind blow”

Not sure what prompted it, could be the changes I see happening close to home and or the changes I see happening elsewhere.

There is a parade of images floating down the internal river of thoughts inside my head. A tapestry of sights and sounds alongside corresponding ideas.

Time plays in the background and the 18 year-old who played this album frequently is roused to the surface to ask the 50 something year-old “Can you see what I see?”

We complement each other, he and I. Both bound to different shackles and open to different ideas based upon experience and lack there of.

Where he sees no way I see a path and where I see walls he sees ladders and shovels.

Is There A Reason To Update?

Emails from various providers of financial and healthcare services ask if my information is up to date. Have I made any material changes that ought to be acknowledged.

The writer looks at the various sites he covers and asks a similar question but with different motives.

“Is there a reason to update? Am I happy with the current state or should I tap, tap, tap the keyboard again.

Maybe.

The answer is maybe.

I hear something calling out and have to decide if there is a reason to answer.
