The Story You Tell Yourself

If we were alone I would look you in the eye and ask you if the story you tell yourself really works for you.

I’d ask how hard it was to convince yourself to ignore that which you know to be real and that which you know could be possible.

Maybe you’d try to turn it upside down and inside out. Maybe you’d suggest I am mistaken and that my beliefs are the flotsam and jetsam left of fantasy, hope and dreams.

I’d say it is possible but that without opening that door there is no way to make a proper and effective determination. I’d say I am open to testing hypotheses and using science to confirm where things lie.

Maybe we’ll have that conversation or maybe we won’t. A man has a significant amount of influence but significant isn’t always enough to make things happen.

Strange Days Indeed

Been in a strange place where I have watched my children battle dragons and have intentionally stayed off of the battlefield.

It is a peculiar thing, this restraint and this approach.

It is without question better for them for me to watch, listen and advise as needed but difficult.

I have told them more than once to remember that growth comes from discomfort but haven’t mentioned my discomfort and wonder if this means I am growing too.

Might be, might not be.

There is much going on now and more than a few things can’t be shared here because there are boundaries in blogging we ought not break.

Boundaries that exist because there are stories that are not ours to tell. But there are also stories that we have ownership that we make an active choice not to lay out for general consumption.

Two come to mind now, one that I could present but am not because I am superstitious about some things and the other, well this isn’t the place.

But damn I have thought about it.

I can feel the weather turning and the cold is getting closer. While we don’t get much snow compared to many other places we do get a very damp cold.

That damp feeling makes it feel chillier than it might actually be. Won’t be long before I carry a jacket in the car just because and wear a hat because my hair has run away.

Some prefer the cold because they say you can always put on more clothes but not me. I am a warm weather guy, almost always my preference.
