A Son’s Obligation

“Dad, I am really tired. It was a long day at work.”

I smiled and said welcome to adult life and then asked him what tools he would need. He told me what he wanted and I grabbed them from the garage and watched him go to work.

It was a simple task and he knew it to be such so his comment wasn’t really about getting out of the work, it was venting.

Made me happy to see him use his grandfather’s pliers and I told him this is another way to keep Grandpa around.

He kept working and I added it is the joy of the son’s obligation.

A 24 Hour Cold

Another camp friend is in town and had life not interfered I would have joined him at the Thirsty Lion for a drink.

Except life did get in the way and I have found myself sneezing so hard my head shall soon be dislodged from its perch upon my shoulders.

I plan on making this a 24 hour cold and it seems to be going that way. This is an irritant I get once or twice a year.

Given that tomorrow I’ll get to see my mom for the first time in two years it really better disappear so let’s cross our collective fingers and snort some Zinc.

She is hitting Texas at the right time, middle of a heat wave with Ercot whining about power but I am not concerned.

I’ll make sure she is fine because that is a son’s obligation and I am the favorite son for a reason. 🙂

There is an almost 17-year-old girl Facetiming with a friend in the other room. I can hear the occasional shrieks of laughter, fragments of comments about boys and a discussion regarding senior portraits.

It is a surreal setting as I absolutely know how old she is and that it is appropriate, she is going into her senior year of high school.

Still it is strange as she was five last week and 12 yesterday.
