“I’d like to ask you a few questions about some of what you have written. Is that ok?”
“Did I write it for you? If the answer is yes than I will be happy to respond and if not, well the answer is maybe.”
“Can you tell me how you come up with ideas for posts?”
“Sort of, but not really there is no editorial calendar. I just start typing and see what comes out. For example I thought about writing something called what happens when soul mates treat you with their sole but I don’t know what it is about yet.”
“So you just make it up as you go along?”
“Yes, it is how I wrote this one and most others. Sometimes I hear a song in my head and include it for a particular purpose but that purpose can change on the fly and lead me to a different song.
I was reminded tonight that I knew two people that have committed suicide during the past three years and that doesn’t include another who we suspect killed herself but have no confirmation.
A friend said I ought to pay attention to vanity and sanity.
It was said in a professional context and it has stuck with me because it is a simple truth that can make life easier or harder.
It is something I use to measure actions taken and or not taken.
Are they or is it going to provide a bigger and better foundation for a project? Will the ROI in time and my credibility be worth the investment or am I going to make things more difficult?
I am rarely afraid to do things the hard way or to take on scary projects but that is a double edged sword that doesn’t always serve me.
Sometimes it causes immense frustration and significant pain in the form of brain damage.
Still the successes there provide significant rewards and some of those cannot be earned in any other way.
It is a see saw battle between which side to take sometimes, back and forth, up and down with no rhyme or reason for some of it.
Why?
Because sometimes the facts aren’t easily weighted and measured.
Sometimes the only way to find out is to do and that can be pretty damn frightening to some.
