I Almost Said It…

Someone mentioned crawling instead of running and I almost said I have seen you move pretty quickly in that position or something along those lines but didn’t.

It came after a night where more than one person remarked on how aggressive and graphic I was in my response to a fool whose best qualities are described as ‘he hasn’t fallen down the stairs or accidentally stabbed himself with a toothpick…lately.”

A couple of the guys encouraged me to continue to engage with Colonel Dumbass but I’m simply tired of dealing with dopes, dunces and mutton heads.

Hell,  I am tired of far more than that and damn near expressed myself quite clearly with people on the homefront who seem to mistake a pause between words as an opportunity to spew nonsense.

Is It A Sad Song?

A guy once asked me if I thought of Telephone Line as a sad song and I said it doesn’t have to be.

“That is not how I think of it. To me it is always about a conversation that could be if people chose to have it but I am told I think about some things differently.

Not sure that is really the case, but maybe it is.

These days I am very clear on who I am willing to speak with and who I won’t. There are people on the list who I would in theory be very open with if we had the chance to have that kind of conversation.

I think about it sometimes because life is short and you don’t know what will or wont happen so if you don’t speak your mind with the people you ought to there is a chance you’ll never get the opportunity.

Some follow it up with asking the obvious, “what are you waiting for” and the answer for me varies but that might be a topic for a different day.

Suffice it to say that even though I am unfiltered and willing to say anything to anyone at any time I am also cautious about it.

Not everyone deserves honesty and even those who do are tempered by circumstances and timing.

Opportunity impacts everything, doesn’t it.

****

A work colleague asked me if I was willing to get on a plane and I said not yet.

“You’re not afraid of dying are you?”

“No, I don’t fear death.”

“You must be a believer.”

“That is not it. I have no reason to be afraid. I hope it doesn’t hurt but I don’t fear it.”

“So you are not afraid that Covid will kill you?”

“It might.”

“I thought you said you are not afraid of it.”

“I am not.”

“So why won’t you fly? That sounds like you are afraid of it.”

“I am fairly certain I was exposed. I am also certain I am going to die. Could be a heart attack. Could be a bus. Could be Covid.”

“Josh, I don’t understand why you won’t fly.”

“I don’t understand why I have to. Don’t have to expose myself to more than I have, do I.”

“Has anyone told you that you are difficult?”

“Why does that matter? I don’t owe explanations to anyone about why I do or do not. It is a ridiculous conversation.”

“Do you have a heart condition?”

“I might.”

“You can tell me.”

“Yeah, I can but I won’t.”
