When Is It Time To Say Goodbye

Got a bottle of Shiner Bock resting alongside my left hand, just a few inches away from a giant pile of business cards and notes.

A million thoughts flow through my head, but mostly I feel the magnitude of the moment.

It is time to move from quiet into action and to rise up and move on.

The Star Trek theme music from the most recent iteration of the movies certainly helps motivate me, as it moves from the theme to Enterprising Young Men I have no trouble picturing the destiny I move to meet.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

When Is It Time To Say Goodbye

I am letting go of certain things and people, silently sharing that Irish blessing and looking forwards because I know what needs to happen and if you can’t sing that song with me, well you can’t come along.

It has been a long time coming this moment and I’d like to say there is some sadness but there just isn’t and that is as telling a sign as anything.

If it doesn’t hurt to let go then it is clear you already have and this moment is just a formality.

****

I should like to paint a painting and to compose a piece of music to go along with it.

Something you could use to help see the depth and layers the words won’t convey but as of now I haven’t the ability to do so with the skill I want.

So words will have to do or not.

Into The Starry Night

Sometimes you pick who you want to join you on your journey and sometimes you’re picked.

There isn’t always a rhyme or reason for it and if you are smart you don’t let the lack of logic trip you up.

You submit to the moment and let your heart guide your head to wherever it is you need to go.

If you can’t sit in silence and stare out at the night sky searching for shooting stars and sharing a moment you need to move on.

It is not easy to do even when you the presence of mind and clarity of purpose to do so.

But you have to follow your north star and see where it leads or face the disappointment that will absolutely find you.

Fighter Jets Ahead

Work took me out towards White Settlement earlier today.

In between stops I parked the car to make a phone call and send out some email but was forced to stop because the roar of a jet.

It wasn’t of the commercial kind, but of the military and while I can’t tell you the exact model I can say it looked like Tom Cruise and Goose were in it.

I jumped out of the car to get a better look and for too brief a moment in time I watched it race across the sky and wondered what that kind of speed must feel like.

That sighting killed my immediate plan and for the next 30 minutes the 12-year-old boy I once was came to the surface and got lost in day dreams.

For a moment I considered driving towards the base to see if I could find a better location to watch but the adult took control again of our body and imposed his will upon us.

Slowly turned and placed myself behind the steering wheel and let that size 12 foot get a little heavier upon the pedal.

Can’t tell you how long it took to make the forty some mile drive back towards home or how much time I spent thinking about the next steps to come.

But I can tell you I made a silent promise or two to myself about my intentions and the future and smiled.

Smiled because there is more than hope behind that smile and not just because I know things.

But because I have seen and done things that prove I am on the right path.

Hasn’t been easy and in many ways it has been the most difficult I have ever experienced but I am good with it.

Good because heart and head are aligned and I am as confident as I can be given the limited information I have about some things.

Another crossroads approaches and there is no time to sit back and watch or think about what my happen.

The only thing that can be done is to cross it and learn firsthand where it will lead and what will happen.

Some will come along and others, well they won’t because it is time to say goodbye.
