The Naughty Niceties Of A Good Memory

And it begins with The Beatles singing to me about carrying that weight a long time followed by a head nod and sigh.

Yeah, I know what it means to carry some weights for a long time and I know what it means to open my hands wide and let others fall.

If you are going to push back twice as hard you have to learn how to let somethings go.

I do and I have and if you want to see what happens when I get irritated all you need to do is suggest I am not being honest about it.

That is part of the naughty niceties of a good memory, I remember…things.

Promises, moments, events and experiences–they stick around inside my skull.

Echoes Of Something

One of the most fascinating lessons of my life is how easily I can ignore the comments of most people and how hard it is to ignore the few.

When one of the few find a way to prick me I try to remind myself about what Plato said and give them a break.

I try to let go of whatever it was and not let it pinball around inside my head.

Not my monkeys, not my circus” as the saying goes.

But it doesn’t always work that way which is why some people are sometimes surprised when they get blasted by me weeks afterwards.

I suppose one of the beauties of growing wiser older is the blasting doesn’t happen very often anymore.

Doesn’t mean never, but now if it happens it generally means there is a ton on my plate and I have hit overload.

That is one of the beauties of blogging, it always takes some of the edge off.

“When you fish for love, bait with your heart, not your brain.”
― Mark Twain, Notebook

One of the benefits of having some life experience is feeling secure in listening to my heart and my gut.

It enables me to avoid most of the silly lies we tell ourselves about why we will or will not do something.

Of course if you tie it into the aforementioned naughty niceties of a good memory you’ll find it sometimes is in conflict with others.

Why?

Because they share a memory with you but see it differently than you do.

Now you can ask/suggest they are confused or revisionists and find them pointing a finger right back at you.

That is part of the joy and the frustration of engaging with other people, sometimes they support you and sometimes they don’t.

Shakespearean Quote Of The Moment

Every time I hear Mars played I think of Star Wars/Darth Vader and characters from Star Trek quoting Shakespeare,

“Cry ‘Havoc!’, and let slip the dogs of war”

I played around with finding a film clip to share here but just didn’t have the patience to try and find the perfect one.

The storm is coming and I have way too much to do to prepare for it so you’ll have to accept my apology for the hard stop that is coming.

So as I go running off into the darkness take these words from my pal Sam Clemens and know they have made me smile.

Perhaps they’ll make you smile too, perhaps not.

That is the beauty of people, you never know who will take your side and who won’t.

Nor do you always recognize when someone chooses not to take a side and just goes a different direction, it is not always personal.
