Some people may suggest my reactions and responses to some things are exaggerated because I am upset about spending Thanksgiving by myself.
My irritation isn’t based upon my being disappointed or sad about having to spend the holiday by myself.
I live alone and spend the majority of my time by myself. It is a temporary situation and I am not bothered by it and wouldn’t use it as an excuse.
If I needed something to explain why I told some people they aren’t just idiots on Facebook I have other things that I could use, but I wouldn’t.
Why?
Because these people are idiots on and off of Facebook.
Don’t Waste Energy Arguing Online
I won’t be the first or last person to suggest arguing online can be a giant waste of time.
Many of them quickly turn into angry screeds pounded out by mighty keyboard warriors who feel emboldened by not having to physically see the person they are arguing with.
However there are times where I set aside my rules of engagement and wade into the fray.
Why?
Because some issues are of paramount importance to allow the narrative to be dominated by fake news and mischaracterization of fact.
When someone suggests that we ignore the mainstream media because they are overwhelmingly liberal I push back.
I say show me what information is incorrect. Show me what is not factual.
If you can demonstrate I’ll readily agree with you and share that information.
But if your position isn’t based upon fact and you’re just upset because the stories make your candidate look bad, well that is how it goes.
Sometimes you support the candidate who encouraged his supporters to beat up protesters.
Sometimes you support the candidate who is beloved by white supremacists.
You can tell me all you want that he doesn’t want their support but it takes more than a half-hearted denunciation to convince me.
I’ll look you in the eye and say I cannot unequivocally say your candidate is a racist and then I’ll remind you he had ample opportunity to tell the white supremacists to go away.
He could have done it at any point during the campaign. It would have made me less suspicious of other things he did that made me wonder if he wasn’t courting them.
I might not wonder if he wanted plausible deniability.
Not Every Supporter Is Racist
Let’s be clear, I don’t think every one of his supporters is racist.
I do think every one of you supported a man who is utterly unqualified to hold the office.
That is ok, you are entitled to vote your conscience and might think I was a fool to vote as I did.
Got no problem with that, it is ok to disagree.
But I do have a problem with the jackasses who minimize the hate and who pretend that some of the anger is justified because “you guys were mean to us for eight years.”
I had a problem with the people who cried, carped and complained about Dubya for eight years.
I had a problem with the people who did it with Obama for eight years.
Y’all made my head hurt because I saw the misinformation and mischaracterization of fact go around during both of the aforementioned administrations.
And now I am just tired of it. Tired of the finger pointing and obstruction on all sides.
A Different Direction
One of the things I like best about blogging is that I don’t have to worry about this being a proper 5 paragraph essay or academic treatise.
All I have to worry about is whether I am having a good time writing.
Most of the time I do and that is enough to keep me going.
