The sun has long since set on this day and I don’t feel like writing. Already spent twenty minutes walking around the complex, 15 minutes of hardcore lifting and another 10 on the treadmill, but the lack of desire to put pen to paper hasn’t left.
Turned on iTunes and cranked up Metal Health, followed it up with Ready, Steady, Go and Maniac.
Yeah, the same Maniac from Flashdance, you know the movie that just turned 30 years old. Still not quite in the mood to write but the juices are starting to flow so I listen to Our House, Institutionalized and This Is Radio Clash and I feel the click.
It is time to write.
No Excuses
Writing is what I do for a living. This iis what pays the bills and brings home the proverbial bacon. I can’t let myself give in to feelings of apathy, ambivalence or fatigue.
The only way to improve is to maintain the discipline that comes from writing and reading. Some of my best work comes from the moments where I force myself to push through the malaise.
I like The Oatmeal. He is twisted but he is also talented and funny.
His bit about being a content creator is awesome, but I disagree about one part. I always find something to write about.
I don’t have the luxury of shutting it all down because I don’t feel inspired.
What Does This Have To Do With The Rules Of Blogging?
Everything. It has everything to do with the rules of blogging.
There are misguided folks out there who will try to convince you there is only one way to be successful. These are people who don’t understand or accept that you can’t be all things to all people.
Passion and personality must be a part of your blog. They are what make your voice interesting and exciting.
And that means that you have to find what works for you. You have to figure out what makes blogging fun and interesting and then do that, even if it contradicts the advice of the experts.
And now my friends this post has served its purpose. You could say it has primed the pump and I have to shift gears to go to work.
It is the write time for writing.

You should definitely be passionate about your blog and you should create quality content which is of use to your visitors. One more thing i have realised over time is that you need to have good SEO plan for your blog, content alone will not help….
Josh
SEO is ok, but if you write for it you risk ripping the heart out of your content.

Hi Josh
Love the “Please be safe” sign.
I would much rather live by breaking the rules of blogging. Inspires the creative side.

Hi Mary,
A lack of creativity makes the world far too dull.

I am still testing ways to blog, and like you, I don’t think there’s just one way to be successful. At the moment, I have opened up for guest posts every single week on my blog, and I keep writing more than ever, sometimes long posts, and at other times, I publish very short ones. Both seems to work fairly well.

Hi Jens,
From my perspective it looks like you have found a system that really works well for you. You are like a powerhouse of blogging.
That is very cool.
