The Texas Goldmine

Someone in Texas is going to be really happy because I found goldmine and that place is raking it in.

Sadly that goldmine doesn’t have my name on it but it does have a chunk of my change. That damn red bulls eye has been steadily sucking cash out of my pockets but I am not upset about it.

That is because when you build a new home from scratch you find a long list of little things that you don’t have that might not be necessities but fall into the category of “they make life nicer.”

What are those things?

Condiments, toothbrush holders, soap dishes, surge suppressors, towels, toasters, coffee makers, assorted foods, spatulas, pots, pans, knives and alarm clocks.

The Car Ride Revisited

When I left Los Angeles I made a point to load my car with quite a bit of stuff so that I wouldn’t have to buy everything but size and space placed some limitations upon me as did not knowing where I was going to be living.

The not knowing where I was going to be living impacted things because I didn’t know f I would need to bring/buy certain things and since I wasn’t heading off to live on some deserted island I figured I would be able to obtain whatever I didn’t have and I have.

What irks me isn’t the cash flow that is tied into this but how many little things I keep realizing I don’t have. There are so many things you just don’t think about that you technically don’t have to have but you would prefer because of their purpose.

The Alarm Clock

I can use my smartphone for an alarm clock but when possible I try not to. It is not because it doesn’t ring at the time it is set for but because I am a deep sleeper and when I am really tired it is just not loud enough.

The hotel had one and a million of the other aforementioned little items which is why I keep coming across the need to grab one of them. Speaking of things I need to grab I am jonesing for a cup of coffee in a bad way and not so much for the caffeine as for the ritual of my morning cup.

Part of what I love about a good cup of coffee is feeling the warmth in my hands and the smell in my nose.

Sometimes I’ll just hold it, close my eyes and review the list of things that have to be done that day.

The Morning After

And that brings me to this ‘graph I called the morning after.

I slept in my new place last night for the first time and woke up with a huge smile. The new bed is outstanding and the feeling of not waking up in a cramped room is really refreshing.

While this place is also a temporary stop it is good because I will be here for many months if not longer as opposed to the hotel where there never was a long term option.

It means that I really get to unpack, unwind and live a bit.

And now my friends I am going to sign off for a while because the to do list involves making that cup of coffee, scrambling some eggs, unpacking some more and then figuring out if I need to go visit the goldmine for anything major.

  1. Happy new home. I always boggle at how much STUFF is needed to do something simple like make a tuna sandwich. On the plus side you now officially have everything for the next twenty years between your two residences (I have determined that all “stuff” has a ten year lifespan, hence it’s always good to have two).

    Well I am sure that list is going to grow when you figure it is time to do this or time to do that. Like clean the floors, clean the bathroom, oops did I just ruin your day. Well happy shopping, it is always fun to shop for new stuff, but not so much when it is stuff you need and it is sitting back there in LA.
