My children and I have an ongoing conversation about when it is good to be part of the crowd and when you need to stand out. They know I am not shy about sharing my feelings and am willing to be vocal in standing up for what I believe in.
It is important to me they understand the value of not being just another face in the crowd but it is also important they recognize that sometimes you don’t want to be that guy/gal that everyone notices.
Some people will tell you there is a benefit in always being the center of attention and that when you do that good things come from it. It is the “bad PR is still good PR” philosophy but I don’t buy that as being something that works for everyone and everything. It is something that is good when you have leverage and a certain amount of power.
But if you don’t…
What Kind Of Blogger Are You?
Earlier today I deleted several emails I received from experts who put together newsletters that promised if I didn’t point, click and sign up today I would miss out on learning secrets for blogging and social media success that I was unlikely to find elsewhere.
What came across from these newsletters was a mixture of hype and fear. I don’t know about you but I find that to be a poor way to sell your services.
I don’t want to make my living based upon fear. I don’t want to be the kind of blogger who doesn’t know how to stand out from the crowd without scaring people into following/buying their services.
It is an easy sale to make but not a good basis for building a relationship and that is my focus.
People Power Social Media
People power social media and people are the motor that powers life. It is why I teach my children sometimes it is more important to get along with others than to be good at things.
Doesn’t mean that I don’t want them to be good at everything they do or that they shouldn’t make an effort but it does mean people like to spend time with those they like.
Especially when you get out of school and into the so called real world. I have worked with a bunch of people who weren’t particularly adept at what they did, but everyone liked them and sometimes that was enough to secure their positions.
And if you apply the same sort of of mindset/rule to social media it is easy to see the need to get along with people.
Are you the kind of blogger that makes their living off of fear or upon building relationships with others.
I know who I am, do you?

Since I don’t want you to cry :)…for me, it’s all about relationships, communication, friendship, ‘raderie (as our friend Jayme would say), #TeamBlogJack, writing from the heart and hoping it touches others, being of service. That means I’m probably never going to be a millionaire in dollars, but I’m a multi-millionaire in the life I live: full, rich and blessed. Cheers! Kaarina
